As Canadians and, more importantly, as a Catholic Community, we are called to live in solidarity. Solidarity requires that we learn from, and about our brothers and sisters in Christ. Regardless of the demographics of your school community, Black History is a conversation we must all be present to as it is everyone's history.

February is Psychology Month. Psychology staff at the 91��Ƭ help students thrive every day by supporting their learning, behaviour and mental health.

February is Winter Walk Month – Stay Active and Walk to School
February is Winter Walk Month. This month, we're encouraging students and their families to walk to school or their bus stop. If you're driving, consider parking your car five minutes from the school and walking the rest of the way. Walking to school has benefits like, boosting your mood, being good for your mental and physical health, helping to make school zones safer and reducing your carbon emissions. February 2 – Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord
Commemorates the presentation of Jesus in the temple by His parents, Mary and Joseph, 40 days after His birth. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; on this day candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world.

February 2 – World Day for Consecrated Life
A day to recognize and appreciate the contributions and commitments that consecrated men and women make to the Church and society at-large. This day is "a suitable occasion for consecrated persons to renew their commitment and rekindle the fervour which should inspire their offering themselves to the Lord" (St. John Paul II, 1997).

February 2-8 - National Catholic Health Care Week
National Catholic Health Care Week seeks to build understanding and connection with the mission and contribution of the Catholic health community working with others to build a just and caring society where all are seen and heard. The 2025 theme “Caring for our Common 91��Ƭ” celebrates the interconnectedness of all creation and helps us to reflect on how our individual and collective actions and our systems—health, social, economic—can promote a healthy world where all can thrive. It emphasizes the integral connection between human health and the health of the planet, echoing Pope Francis’ call to care for the earth as our common home and to embrace an integrated ecology that puts the love at the heart of our ministry into action. We work with many partners—in our Catholic community, our health system and beyond—to contribute to and help shape an ever-evolving health system, drawing on our Catholic values, and a legacy of innovation and ethical reflection. During National Catholic Health Care Week, we invite all to reflect on and share the story of the courageous gift of our shared Catholic health mission.

February 6 - National Sweater Day
National Sweater Day is a WWF campaign that raises awareness around energy conservation. Staff and students across 91��Ƭ are encouraged to engage in various energy awareness activities, including wearing sweaters as the indoor temperatures are lowered to conserve energy. Please refer to the Sweater Day Infographic found on the EcoSchools SharePoint for more information on how 91��Ƭ schools may be participating. Together, let's make a positive impact and continue leading the way in environmental stewardship.

February 11 – World Day of the Sick
"I was sick and you visited me." (Matthew 25:36) An observance started by St. Pope John Paul II as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses and for their caregivers. It is a day that highlights the healing ministry of the Church. This day coincides with the Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes and as well as recognizes the great efforts of doctors, nurses, health care institutions and pastoral care givers to restore health to those afflicted with illness and disease.

February 26 - KUUMBA Community Marketplace
The Black Excellence Team (B.E.S.T) along with the Goetz Black Voices will be hosting the KUUMBA Community Marketplace this year at Father Michael Goetz C.S.S. on February 26, 2025. Black student entrepreneurs will be participating in a community marketplace where they will have the opportunity to showcase their businesses and promote their brands. The evening will also include an opening ceremony, a drummer's circle with Babarinde Williams, a DJ, and refreshments. Come out to support Black youth and build community. February 26 - Loyola C.S.S. Annual Black History Month Showcase
Join Loyola Catholic Secondary School's Black Student Alliance for our Annual Black History Month Showcase - Black Excellence : Honoring Our Legacy, Celebrating Our Roots, Inspiring Our Future. February 27 - 91��Ƭ Secondary Skills Competition 
This year’s annual Secondary Skills Competition will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Secondary School. Successful secondary student competitors will move forward to represent 91��Ƭ at the provincial event on May 6 at the Toronto Congress Centre.

March 5 - Ash Wednesday
“Fasting” (i.e., the consumption of one full meal or two partial meals with no "snacks" in between) applies to those between the ages of 18 - 59. “Abstinence” is the avoidance of all meat on this day (most specifically for those who are 14 years of age and older). Lent is a time to discipline ourselves and to intentionally refrain from our indulgences or things we are too dependent on. We also recognize Lent as a time for works of mercy, of service to those who are in need of our care, love and charity. Let us continue to commit ourselves to the work for the needs of our church, the world and members of our community encountering various challenges around us.

March 7 – World Day of Prayer
“Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action” is the motto of the World Day of Prayer movement. The World Day of Prayer is observed annually on the first Friday of March. It is an invitation for Christians to pray together ecumenically for the concerns of our world, our country, and community. It is sponsored by the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada and its international counterparts around the world.

March 19 – SOLEMNITY of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Principal Patron of Canada and declared Patron of the Universal Church in 1870

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (91��Ƭ) will hold a series of information sessions/open houses for prospective students and families interested in enrolling in a 91��Ƭ secondary school for the 2025-26 school year.

The information sessions will provide an overview of the programs and services offered at Dufferin-Peel Catholic secondary schools and will provide students and families with an opportunity to take a tour of the school and hear from current students about the transition into secondary school.

Currently, 91��Ƭ operates 26 Catholic secondary schools in Mississauga, Brampton, Bolton and Caledon. These schools continue to be recognized among the top performing schools in the province each year.

With over 50 Specialist High Skills Major programs, three regional Arts programs, one regional Sports program, three International Baccalaureate programmes, two regional Advanced Placement programs, Extended French and French Immersion programs, and the only publicly funded All-Girls secondary school in the region, 91��Ƭ schools offer students a variety of learning options to suit their individual education goals.

91��Ƭ Student Census

What is a Student Census?
The Student Census collects detailed information about students' demographics and experiences. In the 2021-2022 school year, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (91��Ƭ) conducted a student census for Grades 4-12 students. Parents or guardians completed the census for younger students (Kindergarten to Grade 3) and those with special needs who required assistance.

Why Conduct a Student Census?
Research has shown that systemic racism and discrimination exist in Ontario. To address these issues, the Ontario Anti-Racism Act, 2017, requires school boards to collect identity-based data on the following items:

Language(s) first spoken	Sexual orientation
Indigenous language(s) first spoken	(Dis)ability
Indigenous identity	Birth in Canada
Ethnicity	Status in Canada
Race	Time in Canada
Religious affiliation	Socio-economic status

Collecting data about these items helps identify and eliminate disparities and disproportionalities in student experiences and outcomes, and supports planning and resource allocation to meet diverse student needs.

Consent, Implementation, and Confidentiality

Consent: The census was voluntary. Parents and guardians received detailed information and had the option to opt out.
Implementation: Students received personalized links to the online census via their school email accounts. The census collected names, student numbers, and school locations to link responses to individual students’ achievement, program access, and discipline information.
Confidentiality: All data collected is kept confidential and used solely to improve student outcomes without revealing personal identities. Detailed privacy measures are in place to protect student information.

Response Rates

Grades 4 - 12: Approximately 74% of students participated, with variations by grade level.
Kindergarten - Grade 3: About 17% participation, with parents/guardians completing the census.

Types of Questions
The census included mandatory questions about:

Demographics: Gender identity, language(s) spoken, Indigenous identity, ethnicity, race, religion, and differing abilities.
Experiences and Attitudes: Peer inclusion, school participation, emotional state, representation of equity-seeking groups, and experiences of exclusion or bullying.

Impact and Benefits
By collecting and analyzing this data, 91��Ƭ aims to:

Identify Issues: Spot and address systemic racism and discrimination within the school system.
Improve Outcomes: Develop targeted strategies to enhance educational outcomes for all students.
Ensure Equity: Uphold Catholic social teachings by promoting human dignity, solidarity, community living, and rights and responsibilities.
Support Students: Ensure that all students feel valued, supported, and treated with kindness and fairness, reflecting the teachings of Christ.

Results and Analysis
91��Ƭ Student Census - Technical Report: A detailed and comprehensive analysis of the census process and findings.

Summary of Student Outcomes: Racial disproportionalities and disparities observed for students in Grades 4 through 12.

Descriptive Tables - Racial Outcomes: a companion report to the summary report of student outcomes. Information in this report includes numeric outcomes for each racial group, based on census responses from students in Grades 4 through 12 who completed the census themselves.

Summary of Student Social Identities: Social identities reported by students in Grades 4 through 12.

Summary of Student Attitudes: Attitudinal findings observed for students in Grades 4 through 12.

Summary of Parent/Guardian-Reported Student Social Identities: Social identities reported by parents and guardians for their students in Kindergarten - Grade 3 and older students who required parent/guardian support to complete the census.

Descriptive Tables – Parent/Guardian Reported Racial Outcomes: Information in this report includes numeric outcomes for each racial group based on census responses from parents/guardians of students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 and older students who required their parents/guardians to complete the census on their behalf.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2025-2026 school year is now open

Kindergarten registration for the 2025-2026 school year at Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (91��Ƭ) schools is now open. The 91��Ƭ offers the Kindergarten program in 125 Catholic elementary schools in Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Bolton and Orangeville.

Parents/guardians can register online at dpcdsb.org.

Registration is open to Catholic children and children of Catholic parents. Kindergarten students must be at least four (4) years of age by December 31, 2025.

The following documents are required to complete the registration process:

Proof of age of the child
Original Roman Catholic baptismal certificate (for child and/or parent/guardian) or original baptismal certificate from a church in full communion with the Holy See of Rome or an Eastern Catholic Church.
Immunization Reference #'s from the local Public Health Unit
Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
Proof of home address
Proof of English Separate School Support

Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board re-elects Luz del Rosario as Chair, Thomas Thomas as Vice-Chair

At the annual Organizational Meeting of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board on Tuesday, November 19, trustees re-elected Mississauga Wards 6 & 11 trustee, Luz del Rosario to a third consecutive term as chair of the 11-member Board of Trustees. Mississauga Ward 5 trustee, Thomas Thomas, was re-elected vice-chair, also for a third consecutive term.

"Re-elected for a third consecutive term as Chair, I am deeply honored to continue serving this Board alongside my colleagues," said Luz del Rosario. "Together, we remain committed to nurturing the values of faith and excellence in Catholic education, ensuring that every student is empowered to reach their full potential and contribute positively to our community."

The meeting opened with the annual address to the board by the Director of Education, Marianne Mazzorato, who recognized and thanked system partners, including parents and guardians, trustees, unions and associations, parish priests and staff at all levels for their commitment and dedication to Catholic education.

In addition to the election of the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees, elections were held for four committees. Results, including the election of the Board Chair and Vice-Chair are as follows:

91��Ƭ announces its 2024 Distinguished Alumni

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (91��Ƭ) has released its 11th annual Distinguished Alumni poster series featuring profiles of alumni who are making valuable and unique contributions in their respective careers, pathways, and communities. 91��Ƭ Distinguished Alumni also represent the image of the Catholic learner as described by the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations.

The Distinguished Alumni poster will be distributed to all Catholic schools and parishes in Dufferin-Peel.

This year's poster features six alumni, including a physician, actress/singer, artist/muralist, entrepreneur, chef and public service executive:

2024-2025 Budget

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (91��Ƭ) will once again develop a budget while operating under a Multi-Year Financial Recovery Plan (MYFRP) with the Ministry of Education. 91��Ƭ continues to work with the Ministry of Education in addressing the significant expenditure concern with a Long Term Disability (LTD) benefit plan that has created an accumulated deficit position. 91��Ƭ will operate under the MYFRP until the issue has been resolved.

The Ministry of Education provides funding to school boards through the Grants for Student Needs (GSN) funding formula. GSN information will be available on the Ministry of Education website through the link provided below as well as through the budget reports presented to the Board of Trustees. Despite limited budgetary resources, 91��Ƭ is committed to ensuring our stakeholders have access to information regarding the budget development process and opportunities to provide input.

Public Budget Information and Consultation

During the 2024-2025 budget development process, 91��Ƭ offered a Public Budget Information Session webcast on April 24, 2024. This session provided an opportunity for our community stakeholders to receive financial information and updates on the 91��Ƭ deficit position. Sharing information, and receiving input from, our community members helps to inform the budget process. The accumulated deficit position of 91��Ƭ, and limited funding resources available, does limit the actual expenditure decisions that can be made.
